A: Do you want to go out tonight?

B: I can't. I have a big test tomorrow, so I need to hit the books.

A: 今夜出かけない？

B: 無理だよ。明日大事なテストがあるから、勉強しなきゃ。

「Hit the books」は、直訳すると「本を叩く」という意味ですが、実際には「勉強する」という意味のイディオムです。特に集中して真剣に勉強することを指します。テスト勉強や宿題など、学習に励む必要があるときによく使われます。
