今週の表現は　by the numbers ( 型どおりに、規則的に）です。

Meaning:
If something is done by the numbers, it it done according to a plan that has been decided previously, without using imagination or original ideas

「by the numbers 」は独創的、創造的ではなく、物事を前と同じ様に行う時に使います。

Example:
A: Hi, John. How was the movie?
( ジョン、映画はどうだったかい？)
B: Hi, Shirley. Actually, it wasn't very good.
( シャリー、そうだね、あまり良くなかったよ。)
A: Oh, why not?
( えー、どうしてかい？)
B: It was just another by the numbers action movie. It was very predictable and boring.
