About TCFL

Educational Goals:


TCFL students will be able to: acquire practical English to meet various social needs; recognize cultural differences and promote better cross-cultural understanding; contribute significantly to the promotion of both culture and industry within the community.

Educational Policies:

In order to achieve the educational goals of our school, the following policies have been implemented:

1. In order for the students to acquire English communicative skills, most classes are basically taught in English.
2. To reap the maximum benefit to individual students, class numbers are kept small.
3. Students undertake practical training with advanced equipment in order to acquire professional knowledge and skills.
4. To promote an international perspective, classes such as 'Cross-Cultural Understanding' and 'Human Relations' are taught.
5. Freedom and open human interactions are held in a high regard in school life in order to support a humanistic outlook.

History:


April 1st, 1985 TCFL was founded according to School Education Regulations as a public vocational school of foreign languages at 6-14, Otemachi, Toyama City
April 11th, 1985 The first entrance ceremony for the Practical English Course was held
June 20, 1991 The school became associated with Foothill College in California.
April 1st, 2002 The Advanced English Course was established.
April 9th, 2002 The first entrance ceremony for the Advanced English Course was held.
April 9th, 2005 Celebrations of the 20th anniversary of TCFL were held

Characteristics of Education at TCFL:


Small Classes: Various teaching methods, such as interviews, roleplaying, discussions and reports, that are characteristic of small-scale schools are used to improve each student's English skills. Individual guidance is a major feature of such small classes, with students undertaking individual interviews with teachers, study on computers, and English essay writing and correction.

Language Education and Data Processing Education: Students are instructed through the use of the best teaching materials and equipment that are available:

CALL system, personal computing
LL with simultaneous interpretation practice booths
internet using optical fiber lines
video projectors
video editing machines
videos, DVDs, CDs

Library:


The library contains approximately 7,610 volumes, of which 4,730volumes are foreign books. It also subscribes to three English newspapers, seventeen English magazines, monthly periodicals for language learning, and has many CDs. Students can watch movies and drama freely in the school by using computer software.
